The biggest highlight for me was any wingless show we attended
Stop thinking about it and book it. The tour lived up to all my expectations and then some. The blokes at Global Speedway Tours really do go out of their way to make the Continue Reading

Most speedway fans in Australia would be aware by now of the decision by the NSW Government to compulsorily reacquire their own land upon which Parramatta Speedway has operated for the last 42 years.
Various promoters have run the track over the last four decades and each and every one of them would have lived every day of every year wondering whether their lease would be renewed when the time came.
Well that day has now arrived and the lease will finish in 2021. The Govt have found a better use for the land as a marshalling and maintenance area for the second Metro train service in Sydney. Over the years there have been numerous “better uses” proposed for the land, but it seemed the speedway survived every time and racing continued. But every promoter must have known that they were only in control until their next lease.
Yesterday’s announcement came as a tremendous shock to everybody, not the least of which would have been Barry and Felicity Waldron, the current promoters. Clearly the Govt could not announce or advise anyone beforehand owing to the enormous financial implications in doing so.
But they certainly could have handled the broad announcement in a better manner. Today’s very positive press release (see attachment) from Andrew Constance surely should have been released at 9.05am yesterday. And noted appropriately during Felicity’s phone call with “Tom from the Land Acquisition’s office” at 11.00am.
Do yourself a favour and read the text and listen to the 2GB recordings in the link below.
If the speedway does re-locate to Eastern Creek, it will be a huge win for the sport. I will be as sad as anyone else to see Valvoline and PCR disappear, but the sport should be safe for decades to come inside a motorsport precinct.
If left at the Granville Showground we will all simply wonder what will happen next. I doubt any promoter would want to live with those circumstances.
