About Global Speedway Tours
The original owners of Global Speedway Tours were two Aussies whose passion for speedway racing knows no boundaries.
Peter Physick & Peter Hanson have lived and breathed dirt track racing since each was old enough to get to the races by themselves without having to rely on relatives or friends to get them there. Away from the speedway, both have become successful businessmen in their own right, but in industries which have no connection with the racing world.
However as of February 2017, Peter H has retired from the touring business and Peter P has purchased his interest to now become the 100% owner of the business with his wife Laima.
“Pete Hanson was great company to have on board with us in our early years and he most certainly assisted in establishing GST as a viable and enthusiastic business”, said Pete Physick.
“I thank him enormously for his contribution and wish him the best in a well earned retirement.”
It was the two Pete’s desire to find a way to make their own highly enjoyable racing experiences available to others which was the basis of creating Global Speedway Tours (GST). The “double Petes” extensive knowledge of speedway in Australia and the USA means that each person who travels with GST will benefit significantly from that know-how and familiarity of the American scene.
Each tour has highlights that can only be experienced with Global Speedway Tours. Our knowledge of leading identities in the USA who are willing to share their life with you at the track, or over dinner and a few beers, will make your trip one to remember for a lifetime.
Peter Physick has put the schedules, itineraries, website and administration together using all his knowledge gained from 36 racing trips to the USA. As a result you will be at every possible “must see” race between the start and end of your tour. Plus visit some incredible places you may not otherwise see …
Global Speedway Tours conduct all their business direct with the suppliers of the service. Be it the airline, the hotel, the racetrack, the buses, the entity providing the sightseeing …. or Stubb!
The fun loving Pete Physick is always your personal Tour Leader and will be with you every moment of the way when you join him on any Global Speedway Tours’ trip.

In 1964, aged 12, Peter climbed the side fence at the late Kym Bonython’s Rowley Park Speedway in Adelaide to witness his first speedway meeting. (He has since repaid the admission fee of one shilling.) The incredible spectacle of noise, smell and colour instantly captivated him and he estimates that he has now paid for a ticket at close to 2,000 race meetings since. Valvoline Raceway (formerly Parramatta Raceway) is where you would have found him every Saturday night before it closed in 2020. He joined with a collection of great friends who all share the colour, excitement, spectacle, noise, smell, cameradie and unpredictability of a night at the speedway.
Peter has lived and worked in Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle, Perth and Melbourne courtesy of the MLC where he was employed for 25 years up to 1996. His last role with MLC was Manager for NSW before forming his own company Speakers Australia which still supplies business speakers, celebrities, sportsmen and entertainers for corporate conferences and events. It is these accumulated skills which allow him to put on a pretty good conference, or corporate incentive trip and now a pretty good Speedway Tour.
And now, after 43 trips across the Pacific to watch ’em race at more tracks than most Americans have been to, it is the planning and hosting of our highly researched racing tours around the speedways of America that still drives Pete to the ultimate.
Peter Hanson (founding partner – now retired)
First and foremost Pete has been a passionate Speedway fan all his life. From the golden era of the Sydney Showground, Westmead, Liverpool through to Parramatta where he still spent every Saturday night until it closed. There hasn’t been a Warrnambool Classic or an Australian Title that he hasn’t seen in the last 16 years and has visited most of the famous USA tracks on a regular basis.
When asked why he is so passionate about this sport, he says, “it’s not just the most exciting form of motorsport you can see, it’s also about the people you meet, particularly on tour. They are all people who share a common interest and you will make friends with for life. It doesn’t matter what track you attend, there is always a network of friends wanting to catch up, watch the racing and share a drink or two. Can you imagine this happening in any other sport?”
Professionally Peter operated a very successful promotions & hospitality business for 34 years, being involved with Jim Beam’s office start up and licensed product distribution in Australia. In addition to providing product and services to many others such as Nestlé, Starbucks, Masterfoods, Warner Music, EMI, RTA Crashlab, Swift & Moore and Mediterranean Shipping Company, to name just a few.
